Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival is one of the biggest, most well known music festivals in the US, if not the world. Each spring, avid music fans and influencers gather for two weekends of seeing live performances from a wide range of chart-topping headliners and up-and-coming artists.
As fans look forward to weekend two, let’s recap some of weekend one’s notable moments.
As the Friday headliner, Lana del Rey dazzled the crowd with songs across her expansive discography, including hits like “Summertime Sadness,” “Ride,” “Video Games,” and “Young & Beautiful.”
From her elegant glittery outfits to her ending her set by riding off on a motorcycle, Lana del Rey asserts her undeniable impact on both the music industry and pop culture.
Tyler the Creator headlined on Saturday, kicking off his set by exploding out of a trailer. With a desert-themed set, he delivered an energy-filled set complete with special guests like Childish Gambino, ASAP Rocky, and Kali Uchis. At the end, he flew off the stage just as dramatically as how he arrived.
Doja Cat is no stranger to unique and captivating performances. On Sunday, she appeared in a long wig, as well as an outfit covered with hair. After an energetic, powerful performance of “Tia Tamera,” she “shaved” off the hair to reveal a new outfit, launching into the rest of her set.
The reunion of No Doubt was, no doubt, an incredible moment. Gwen Stefani, lead vocalist of the band, recreated an iconic call-and-response performance before the hit song “I’m Just A Girl.”
Grimes also had a moment onstage, although an unfortunate one. While starting strong by entering on a giant mechanical spider, she experienced technical difficulties with the tracks that she had prepared for her DJ set, pausing several times in frustration.
Overall, this has definitely been a big year for Coachella, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens during weekend two!
