Coachella is always one of the biggest music festivals of the year. Hosted in “Coachella Valley” in the California desert has seen some of the biggest artists to date. This year was no different bringing out artists like Tyler the Creator, Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, Lil Uzi Vert, Peso Pluma, Ice Spice and more.
Here are some of the most talked about moments from Coachella 2024 weekend one.
Doja and her hair
Doja Cat is only the second black woman to headline Coachella (Beyoncé being the first) and she did not disappoint her fans, introducing artists like 21 Savage and Peso Pluma. One of the most memorable moments of her performance was when her and her backup dancers were adorned in blonde hair from head to toe.
The group moved on stage in perfect harmony and an array of hair since Doja’s wig touched the floor, her fur boots, and her dancers in full fursuits. This was just one of six outfits Doja changed into throughout her 90 minute set. Many blogs and sites are calling this performance a work of art, not giving the audience a moment to look away.
Doja performed her hit song “Tia Tamera” and many songs off her most recent album “Scarlet." This caused many fans to be disappointed as she did not perform many of her more pop-hit songs, but Doja simply responded that she was done with pop music.
In the final scene of the performance Doja’s backup dancers were rolling around in a mud pit throughout “Wet Vagina,” Doja being completely hidden from view. At the end, Doja came into view, waved goodbye, and concluded her set.
Grimes with technical difficulties
Grimes performed her set on Saturday, April 13 and it has made its rounds as one of the most talked about performances on social media. One of the first things many fans are talking about is that Grimes did not actually perform her songs, she had more of a DJ set.
During this set Grimes told fans numerous times that she was facing major technical difficulties. She halted the show multiple times to talk to fans in the audience to try to explain the issue. She addressed fans by saying "All of my tracks are double the tempo. I'm trying to do the math, but they're kind of unfixable.”
She later took to X to issue a formal apology to fans stating that she “outsourced essential things like rekordbox bpm's.” She said that typically for her sets she sets up every aspect of her shows herself and that she had bad feelings before the show.
In the end, she promised that her performance will be flawless the second weekend of Coachella.
Reneé Rapp brings out Ke$ha
Reneé Rapp’s music career has taken off this pass year, so it only makes sense that she makes her Coachella Debut. During this performance, she brought out hit star Ke$ha.
The pair performed the chart topping song “Tik Tok,” but with a twist. In the original song the first lyric sings, “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy” but during their performance the two changed the lyrics to “Wake up in the morning like fuck P. Diddy.” This was in direct response to the controversy surrounding P. Diddy’s sexual assault allegations.
