It’s warm here in Happy Valley and every student is stressed about finals. Which means Movin’ On is right around the corner!

This year’s line-up is jam packed with acts like Amelia & Sequoia, Slayyyter, That Mexican OT, The Dare, and Zara Larsson. As the artists prepare to hit the stage here’s a little bit about someone I’m very excited to see: That Mexican OT.

That Mexican OT, born Virgil Rene Gazca, was born and raised in Bay City, Texas and has become a staple new voice in the Texas rap game. By fusing southern hip-hop energy with Tejano and Chicano influences OT has a sound that's memorable, catchy and exciting.

OT hit the scene with his first album the South Texas Project, which featured songs like Misunderstood, Get Ugly and Beatbox the Block. This piece was followed by a number of singles and albums like Southside Steppin, 1 Double 0 and Nonsense and Mexican Shit.

OT gained major recognition with his 2023 hit single, Johnny Dang, a collaboration with Paul Wall and DRODi. Johnny Dang secured OT his first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually a deal with Interscope Records.

From there he gained a fanbase who excitedly received his Lonestar Lunchador album in 2023. The album was perfectly described in its description as “Straight outta Bay City, behold the Texas Technician.”

Lonestar Lunchador saw features by BigXthePlug, Ralph Barbosa Jr., Lefty Sm and more. With songs like Hit List, 15 Missed Calls, and my personal favorite, Skelz, OT cemented his position in the Texas rap game.

In 2024 and 2025, OT released albums Texas Technician, Chicken & Sauce and Recess. The albums saw features from artists like Moneybagg Yo, DaBaby, Peso Peso, Lil Wayne and more.

During this time, OT made the 2024 XXL Freshman Class and grew from a local staple to a national phenomenon. Through cementing his unique sound, OT cemented himself a place on the Movin’ On 2026 stage.

I am so excited to see That Mexican OT hit the stage on May 1 at the IM Fields, and I hope you are too.

So, for my last year – I hope to see you all there!
