Dressing up for concerts is one of the best parts about attending them in my opinion. There truly is nothing like planning, buying and executing the outfit of your dreams at the concert of your dreams.
Since summer is almost here, and by association so are all of the amazing summer tours we will all be attending, it is time to talk about concert fashion.
Since the beginning of time, fashion has been a pivotal aspect of how music and concerts are enjoyed. Fashion and concerts have always gone hand in hand.
Whether that be the artists sense of style playing the most important role in their brand image, or the fans bringing the artists songs to life via their clothes- the two are intertwined.
Bands and artists have reflected their musical style in their clothing for decades, but more recently their fans have been establishing their own style related to the music they enjoy listening to.
Concerts have always been a place for this expressive style of music to be on prominent display. It is the only place where fans and artists can come together and enjoy the music together- and they do this by dressing for the music.
For a long time, fans have always dressed to resemble their favorite artists- like wearing their band tees around school or copying their famous outfits to embody them- but now they are taking musical fashion to a new level.
Now, fans are taking their love of music to a whole new level with outfits inspired by the songs, eras and music videos from their favorite artists.
This trend has been around for a long time, but has recently soared to new heights with the Harry Styles Love On Tour shows in 2021. Boas, leather, sequins and pink & blue were sold out of stores for months following the tour's start- and concert fashion hit new heights.
Fans want to dress up for their concerts because they are such big (and expensive) moments in their lives. They may not get to experience these moments every week, so they dress up in their finest and most shiny clothes and soak in every moment.
Another notable tour that evolved concert fashion was Taylor Swift’s highly-successful The Eras Tour, where fans would recreate their favorite lyrics, songs or fun moments in Swift’s career.
Fans were dressing like traffic lights, princes and princesses, fictional characters that Taylor herself created and many more fandom jokes. While dressing like this, there were also many who were decked out in glitter, sequins and rhinestones.
Fans of Taylor Swift spent months hand making their concert outfits so that they could have the most original outfit- going as far as making bodysuits, wedding dress look-alikes and fake red-bottom heels to resemble the artist herself.
Fans took their dedication to concerts and music to a new level- and since then, the bar is set incredibly high.
Music and fashion are always ever-evolving; and together they are able to create wonderful and memorable moments for fans and artists alike.
So, when you buy a concert ticket to see your favorite artist, remember to bring out your best sequined outfit or create your own artist-inspired outfit and get ready to have the most fun night ever!
